Tipping system is migrated from western countries at the begging but now it is quite common most of the country especially in tourism sector. it is really common question of almost every travelers who come to Nepal for their holidays in to the mountains as it is important too. Nepal is a country where you can explore more than 100 ethnicity, Languages, many different culture and many high range of mountains including world's highest peak( Mt. Everest). this is why Nepal becoming a best travelers destination.
When you go for trekking there will be some guide , assistance guide, porters, and other staff as per your trekking design and group size however, After your successful trip at the end all these staff highgly expect your good tip because most of them are from poor family this is why they don't mind to help any time to there clients that mean they are expecting good tip. so now what is good tip ? i would say there is not really a rules and regulation for tipping but obviously you should tip if they make your wonderful trip. if you are doing Everest base camp trek for 11 night & 12 Days than you can tip 100 USD From your group for porter and 100 + is your guide Tip. there is also assistance guide some time you can calculate the ranking Guide , assistance guide & Porter than you can tip. There are so many articles i have read and my experienced too, if you don't tip more than 100 USD at list for over 10 days trek than the local guide or porters will be upset as they think we didn't work nicely. so once again it is not obligation for travelers to tip but it is kind of obligation if your guide or porter make your awesome trip.
My experienced says this most be the tip list:
1 to 5 days trek: Guide 60 USD & porter 45 USD
5 to 10 Days trek: Guide 120 USD & porter 100 USD
10 to 15 Days trek: Guide 200 USD & porter 150 USD
Over 15 days trek: you can top of it.......
note that it is only my experience but tip can be up and down the amount according to your service and size of group.
